Boncoura’s Heavy Weight Thermal is an unusually substantial interpretation of the classic waffle-knit thermal, developed to work equally well as a base layer or worn entirely on its own. The custom-developed cotton fabric uses wider ribs and a considerably deeper waffle structure than conventional thermal knits, giving the surface exceptional texture and dimension. Its high-density construction provides real weight and body while preserving the natural air-trapping properties that make waffle fabrics so effective in cooler weather. A specialized finishing process gives the fabric a soft, airy touch without sacrificing the underlying firmness Boncoura wanted from the knit. Particular attention was paid to preventing the gradual stretching and loss of shape that can occur with traditional waffle fabrics after extended wear.
As these thermals are worn and washed the pronounced waffle surface will settle and develop unique texture and character. Flatlock seam construction keeps the interior smooth, minimizing raised seams and making the thermal more comfortable when worn directly against the skin. The silhouette is intentionally roomier than a traditional thermal undershirt, allowing it to function naturally as a standalone long sleeve shirt.
